The Jean Wilkinson Trophy Competition Conditions

Completion date for group matches: 31 July 2024

Semi-finals and final will be played in early September at The Cambridgeshire GC. Date to be notified as soon as possible.

The semi-finals and final will normally be played on the same day, ideally with a 2 tee start for the semi-finals. In the event of inclement weather, a late decision may have to be made to defer the final to a reserve date to ensure the competition can be competed over a full 18 holes

  • Clubs will be drawn into groups, each comprising three or four clubs.
  • Each team will consist of FIVE players, with ONE player drawn from each of the following FIVE handicap index bands:
    10.0 - 14.4
    14.5 - 19.4
    19.5 - 24.4
    24.5 - 29.4
    29.5 – 36.0
Note: County 1st team players for the current and previous season are not eligible to play
  • The players’ actual handicap index on the day of the match will determine the final team. Players may play in
    a. a lower handicap band, but NOT in a higher band
Clubs are advised to have a plan in place to deal with late handicap changes.
  • Details of the group draw will be issued around June for the following year. All group matches must be played both home and away.
  • All games are played off scratch over 18 holes under normal match play rules
  • Two points for a win or unplayed concession (see below) and one point for a half. The result of any partially completed conceded game shall be whatever the state of that game is at time of the concession
  • If an individual game is conceded on the day without being played, no winning margin should be assigned
  • The winning margin of each game must be recorded, but margins will only be used if teams are tied on completion of all group matches
  • If a group is tied after winning margins are taken into account, the County Competition Secretary will arrange a deciding match on a neutral course
  • It is expected that ALL individual games/matches will be played, and every effort should be made to ensure this. In the event of one or more games in a match potentially being conceded, the situation will be managed as follows:
    a. a match will be deemed to be viable if 3 or more games are played; 2 points will be awarded to the opposition for each conceded game (i.e., up to a maximum of 4 points)
    b. a match will be deemed non-viable if 3 or more games are to be conceded. In this scenario it is expected that:
    i. a change of date should be discussed between the two teams and if, after all reasonable efforts have been made to rearrange the match, no date can be agreed, the County Competition Secretary should be informed
ii. If, following further mediation by the County Competition Secretary, no alternative date can be negotiated, the team that concedes the whole match will be removed from the group for that year along with any points from matches already played
  • In both the semi-finals and final, all games will be played to a conclusion under normal match play conditions i.e. each game must be won/lost - no halved matches. If, however, a clear match result has already been achieved, the match captains may call their players in
  • Trophies presented to the winning and runner-up teams. Medals will be presented to the winning team
