East Region Ladies match v. Cambridge University Ladies

This weekend saw the annual match of East Region Ladies v. Cambridge University Ladies at Royal Worlington & Newmarket. The sun shone for the whole of the day, which the players were very thankful for. The course at Royal Worlington was in very good condition.  However, play had to be off fairway mats which was a little alien to a lot of the East Region Ladies!

The East Region was represented by Sue Caley (Bedfordshire), Sharon Black (Norfolk), Ann Fosker (Suffolk), Lindsay Gray (Hertfordshire), Sally Newman-Russell (Essex) and Jacquie Richardson (Cambridgeshire). The handicaps of the ladies ranged from 3.4 to 12.7.

Cambridge University was represented by Kristen Yeh, Oriana Schoni, Sam Lanevi (Capt), Isabella Pearson, Lisa Dratva and Anna Wheaton. The handicaps of the ladies ranged from +1.9 to 24.8.

The history behind the event is that this friendly match is traditionally a “practice” for the University Ladies ahead of their varsity match v. Oxford later in the month. With this in mind there were three 9 Hole Foursomes Matches played in the morning which the East Region Ladies won 2 and halved the third.  This was followed with a break for a lovely lunch which was provided by the Royal Worlington.

Six 18 Hole Singles Matches took place in the afternoon  which the East Region Ladies won 4 and lost 2.

At the end of the day all the ladies enjoyed tea and cake and everyone agreed what a great day it had been!

Pictured here are the East Region Team enjoying the lovely sunshine!
