Cambs and Hunts Womens Golf Ltd

Julie Walter Lifetime Achievement Award 2025

Sheila joined Lakeside Lodge GC when it first opened, around 1990 and she is still a
member. She has always been warm, friendly and encouraging, making others feel both
comfortable and welcome. She has been lady captain twice, in 2001 and 2016 respectively.
Sheila has been and still is instrumental in supporting the club and the ladies’ section, in
particular by providing advice and guidance when required.
In 2018-19 she also took on the role of match captain in the Past Lady Captain’s Golf
Society.
In addition to her club commitments, Sheila was elected to the role of England Golf Voting
Member representative for Cambs & Hunts Ladies County Golf Association in 2017. This role
has entailed representing the views of the county at England Golf meetings. The other key
element of this role has been her involvement in the East Region Competition Coordinating
Group - this has entailed hosting at least one and sometimes two regional competitions
within the county each year. Sheila successfully masterminded the first new style 2 nd ER
Team Trophy in 2021, which was run over two days at St Ives GC. She has also represented
the East Region on a number of England Golf working groups.
Sheila’s growing involvement in all aspects of the county culminated in her being appointed
County President in 2020 and she continued in this role for three years, followed by a
further year as Immediate Past President. As County President Sheila guided us through the
challenges of COVID in the period March 2020 to July 2021.
More significantly Sheila successfully led CHLCGA through the process of incorporation and
the formation of Cambs & Hunts Women’s Golf Ltd in November 2020. This was a complex
process, requiring significant negotiating and communication skills along with attention to
detail.
In conclusion: - Sheila has been a strong advocate of women’s golf and is highly regarded at club, county,
regional and national level. 2025 will be her final year as the EG Voting Member
Representative and as a CHWGL Director, it therefore seems fitting to acknowledge her
multiple contributions to women’s golf over the last thirty year by presenting her with the
Julie Walter Lifetime Achievement Award.
