Junior Team
We thought you would like to know that our Junior Team of Olivia Wynne,
Evelyn Parks, Holly Hartley, Elizabeth Wynne, Chloe Willison and Imogen
Sandhurst took part in the East Region Team Trophy held at Porters Park Golf Club
in Hertfordshire. We had to make a late change to the team when Maya
Mahadeva withdrew with a back problem but Imogen Sandhurst from Kingsway,
playing in her first major tournament, played exceptionally well.
The format for the competition is teams of six with the four best scores to
count. Our team was pipped at the post by just one point by Essex, full
results of the competition were:
Essex 144 points
Cambs & Hunts 143 points
Norfolk 141 points
Hertfordshire 140 points
Suffolk 126 points
Bedfordshire 120 points
The individual scores for our team were: Elizabeth Wynne 38 pts, Holly
Hartley 36 pts, Olivia Wynne 35 pts, Evelyn Parks 34 pts, Chloe Willison 33
pts and Imogen Sandhurst 26 pts.
Well done to the whole team and commiserations on just missing out.

Cambridge Country Club win the Jean Wilkinson Trophy
Congratulations go to Cambridge Country Club on winning the 2021 Jean Wilkinson Trophy.
Having beaten Girton in the morning, they went on to claim the trophy after a hard-fought match against Gog Magog. Commiserations go to the Gogs and to the losing semi-finalists Girton and Ely City.
Presidents Day a Great Success
Sheila had a highly successful Presidents Day on 19 August. All the clubs who contributed in advance and everyone who took part on the day, were incredibly generous.
Altogether we think we raised in the region of £3,600. This will be used to support the development of our junior girls (our future).
What a fantastic result and, hopefully, everyone enjoyed the day too. Next year’s date is Thursday 18th August 2022 when we can do it all again. Thank you to everyone, take care and carry on enjoying your golf.
The East Region 2nd Team Trophy takes place on Thursday and Friday this week at St Ives.
The team, which includes some of our star juniors, would love to have some supporters to cheer them on, so if you have a few hours to spare on either day, please go along wearing something blue. You are guaranteed to see some great golf. For more information please go to https://chwgl.co.uk/county-2nd-team/

Miranda in fine form as she clinches County title
Gog Magogs Miranda Brain produced some excellent golf to clinch the Cambs and Hunts Women’s Golf Championship played at Ely Golf course with victory over local player Ella Mason.
In the 36 hole qualifying competition Miranda Brain (Gogs), playing off a handicap of 5+ topped the list of qualifiers with a gross score of 148. In her second round she produced some stunning golf equalling the course record with a score of 70. Playing partner Ella Mason (Ely City) had two solid rounds of 74 and 76 to secure the nett prize. Two very promising juniors, Olivia Wynne and Lila-Belle Nacca produced some excellent golf to qualify for the match play competition.
In the quarter-finals of the matchplay competition Miranda Brain play Ely City’s Emma Pennington. She continued her good form from the previous day winning the match
5 & 4. Marcella Tuttle (The Links) secured a comfortable 5 & 4 victory over promising junior Lila-Belle Nacca (Bourn).
The match between Jackie Ewing (The Links) and Laura Todd (Ely City) proved to be a real battle with Jackie securing a one up victory with a birdie on the 18th hole. The last quarter final between two junior players Ella Mason (Ely City) and Olivia Wynne (Bourn) produced an epic battle. Olivia, in her first County Championship showed few signs of nerves as she battled it out against the more experienced Ella Mason. She parred the 14, 15 and 16th holes to level the scores. Ella then produced some solid golf in winning the 17th and 18th holes to secure a 2 up victory.
In the semi-final of the match play competition Miranda Brain had a comfortable 5-3 victory over Links player Marcella Tuttle. The other semi-final between Ella Mason and Jackie Ewing was very evenly contested with Ella sinking a solid putt on the 18th to claim victory.
In the final Brain parred the first hole to take an early lead. The next three holes were halved and Brain increased her lead when Mason went through the back of the 5th green and missed her putt. Mason fought straight back with a solid par on the sixth hole. However Brain produced a killer blow when she chipped in from off the green to clinch the 7th hole to restore her 2 hole lead. The 8th went to Brain and with the 9th hole being halved Brain reached the turn 3 up.
The following three holes were halved and Brain increased her lead by winning the 13th hole. After halving the 14th hole Brain closed the match on the 15th hole for a 4 and 3 victory.
The Allen Newport Trophy is awarded for the best gross score over 2 rounds:
