CAPTAIN’S REPORT and FINAL RESULTS
This year has been a challenge as it has for everyone. Our year was due to start on 1 May with a visit to Stoke by Nayland for foursomes practice. The team was so looking forward to this as the previous year had been cancelled. Sadly, the weekend had to be cancelled yet again as the resort had no availability to re-schedule – all very frustrating.
County Match Days
- The CHWGL squad for CMD was announced after completion of the County Championship. The ten selected players were

All players are to be congratulated on their selection; PE was a non-playing captain. Lucy Pepper was experiencing playing at this level for the first time, always a huge step up for anyone but she managed her few days very well.
- Most of the team arrived on Thursday for the practice round. Essex was our first test on Friday morning which proved to be very tough and we lost. However, we managed a half with Hertfordshire, the eventual winners, early on Saturday after play had been suspended on the Friday due to torrential rain.
- Norfolk was our next challenge on Saturday morning. This was a great match and we beat them 3 and 2 – a real achievement. Suffolk was our next match on Saturday afternoon and after an amazing comeback in the foursomes from Marcella and Jackie, we managed a very close halved match. Some of the team played 42 holes that day.
- Sunday was the final day and we played Bedfordshire and a win would have put us in second place. After losing the first two foursomes matches, we had to win the singles – unfortunately we managed two halves and one win. The two halves both went to the 18th and could have gone our way, but the golfing gods were not with us that day.
- Our team was amazing, and I know that Jackie is taking over a team that is full of spirit and has the talent to beat anyone.
