Emily battles hard to retain her title
In a very evenly contested final defending Champion Emily Slater (Gogs) produced some excellent golf to retain the Cambs and Hunts Ladies Championship title she won for the first time last year with victory over Marcella Tuttle (Links).
In the 36 hole qualifying competition Tabitha Brain (Gogs) topped the qualifiers with a total score of 151 with Zhanna Tarasko (Gogs) in second place on 154 with eventual winner Emily Slater (Gogs) in third place with 154.
In the quarter final of the matchplay competition Sarah Greenall (Links) played some solid golf to defeat Tabitha Brain 3 & 2. Defending champion Emily Slater had a hard fought battle against Jackie Ewing (Links) and just edged home 2 & 1.
Marcella Tuttle (Links) used her local knowledge to secure a comfortable 5 & 3 victory over Charlotte Kathe (Gogs). Last year’s losing finalist Belinda Borneo had a solid 4 & 3 quarter-final victory against Zhanna Tarasko (Gogs).
Emily Slater continued her good form in the semi-final with a 4 & 3 victory over Sarah Greenall. In the other semi-final Marcella Tuttle battled hard to clinch a 2 up victory over Belinda Borneo.
The golf in the final was exceptional and produced a very evenly contested match. Marcella Tuttle opened with a birdie on the first hole to take the lead. Emily Slater responded with birdies on the fourth and sixth holes to reach the turn 1 up. Emily increased her lead when she won the 10th hole. With the next five holes all halved with pars Emily clinched a 3 & 2 victory with a solid par on the 16th hole.
The Allen Newport Trophy for the best gross score (am and pm) of 151 and the Scratch Bowl for the best gross scores from the Division 1 meeting and the gross scores for the first two rounds of the Championship went to Tabitha Brain with a score of gross 232.
The prize for the best net score in the Stroke Play Qualifying Rounds went to Marcella Tuttle with a nett score of 145.
In the quarter finals of the Plate event Tina Broadley (Ely City) pipped Edie Douglas (Links) finishing 2 up. Ely City’s Elaine Bertram had a hard fought match against Links Jude Hole and just scrapped home finishing 1 up.
Karen Cook (Links) battled hard for a one up victory against Grace Eastment (The Cambridgeshire). The last quarter-final saw Bourn’s Paula Offer record a 4 & 2 victory over Diane Amps (Bourn).
In the first semi-final Tina Broadley played some solid golf to complete a 4 & 3 victory over Elaine Bertram. The second semi-final saw Karen Cook romp to an easy victory over Paula Offer.
